Women artists of Haarlem guided walking tour (english)

Zo 29/03 - Haarlem

Verwey Museum Haarlem

12:00 - 14:00

Discover Haarlem through the eyes of the women who shaped, and continue to shape, its artistic history. During this special guided walking tour (in English), art historian Oana Stan brings to life the – often overlooked – stories of remarkable women artists, connecting voices from past centuries with those creating work today.

From painting and sculpture to embroidery and writing, you’ll uncover how women have influenced Haarlem’s cultural life in powerful and creative ways. Starting at the Kenau Statue on the Stationplein, the tour winds through the historic city centre, connecting places to the lives and work of artists such as Graziella Curelli, Coba Ritsema, Judith Leyster, Anna van Gogh-Kaulbach, Jeanne Verwey-Tilbusscher and Jacobien de Rooij.

The walk concludes at Verwey Museum Haarlem. Here, Oana introduces the art and stories of women currently on display in the museum. After the tour, participants are welcome to explore the museum independently and continue discovering at their own pace.

About Oana Stan
Oana Stan (b. 1996) is the founder of Women of Haarlem. A Romanian art historian specialized in the Dutch Golden Age, she is passionate about uncovering hidden histories of women and bringing them vividly to life.

While studying Renaissance art history, Oana realized she had been taught only half the story: the male half. Her thesis research, tracing early modern collections in museums across the Netherlands and Belgium, revealed a striking absence. The names of women artists existed in records, but their works were often missing.

That discovery changed everything. Since then, Oana has dedicated herself to finding the women behind the gaps in the story. Years of archival research, overlooked biographies and collaboration with fellow historians have shaped this tour. She now invites you to walk through Haarlem with her and encounter the lives, works, and voices of the women who shaped it.
